Version 2.20 adds the new Systems/Debug cross-platform debugger. Systems/Debug supports assembly level as well as C/C++ source level debugging.

Version 2.20 of Systems/C focuses on standards adherence, code optimization and generation improvements, and on-going GCC compatibility features, providing improved runtime performance as well as compile-time improvements.

Systems/C is available as a native compiler for OS/390, z/OS and z/Linux, or as a cross-compiler hosted on Windows, AIX, Solaris, Solaris x86, FreeBSD, HP/UX, Mac OS X 386, and Linux.

Features of Systems/C include:

• ANSI C compiler, ANSI C preprocessor, C Library, pre-linker and linker, archive librarian utilities, a CICS preprocessor and a DB2 preprocessor.

• Available as a native C compiler on OS/390, z/OS and z/Linux, as well as a cross compiler on Windows, AIX, Linux, Solaris (SPARC), Solaris (x86), HP/UX, Mac OS-X 386 and FreeBSD.

• True 64-bit compiler, using the z/Architecture instructions, new floating point registers, immediate instructions, etc.

• Generates formatted and commented ASM source, ready for assembly by HLASM on OS/390 or the z/Linux assemblers on z/Linux.

• Supports direct in-line assembly code - including system macros. Allows for access to registers via C variables for readily communicating data between ASM and C code. Also, C source can reference ASM constants, such as EQUate values, DSECT offsets, etc...

• Optimized function entry and exit. Entry and exit macros can be tailored, on a per-function basis, or completely replaced by the user's own macros. The choice of base register can be changed on a per-compilation basis.

• IBM C compatibility mode; where the generated assembler source code, can be freely mixed with IBM C objects. This includes the long long and Decimal data types, as well as several other IBM C language extensions and debugging information.

• Native z/OS support:
  • Cross-memory mode (HASN != PASN != SASN).
    
  • AR mode; extensions to C to add ALET-qualified pointers.
    
  • Full access to OS/390 services via in-line ASM source.
    
  • Allow non-key 8, supervisor state and SRB-mode execution.
    
  • 24/31 bit AMODE.
    
  • Supports DISABLED callers (interrupts) with modified function entry and exit macros.
    

• z/Linux support:
  • Supports GCC-style C language extensions
  • Compiles with the z/Linux system header files (GLIBC), unchanged.
  • Generated objects link with any other z/Linux objects.
  • Can generate Linux assembler source on any supported host platform.
  • Systems/C language extenstions supported, including direct inline assembler source.

• CMS support:
  • Directly callable sytem services, via the inline assembly source feature.
    
  • 24/31/64-bit AMODE.
    
  • AR mode; extensions to C to add ALET-qualified pointers.
    

We've also provided several examples to point out these features. These examples represent work-in-progress; so every feature may not be evident. Furthermore, they are frequently updated; you may want to check often.

Also - you can compile your own source! We've provided a web-based compilation mechanism to submit source and see the output from the Systems/C compiler (DCC), along with the generated assembly language source.
